Michael Cameron is a resident of Owen Sound, Ontario who discovered the 39th Mersenne prime, 213466917-1.
On 2001-11-14, Cameron's 800 MHz AMD T-Bird reported the prime after 42 days of computation. The 20-year-old Cameron had joined GIMPS following suggestions from a friend that he participate in a distributed computing program to make use of the idle CPU cycles. This was Cameron's fourth exponent.
