PrimeNet issues Assignment ID's to track the results that are submitted. When the Prime95 software requests an assignment (or when a user is self-assigning an exponent) PrimeNet will issue a 32 character hexadecimal assignment ID. This number appears to be random (at least in part), so an individual cannot construct an ID. When results are turned in with the appropriate assignment ID, credit will be given to the user that had registered that assignment (even if the result comes from a different computer under the user's control). Results that are turned in without an assignment ID can result in no credit being issued.
Assignment ID's also function to discourage poaching of assignments.
