Joel Armengaud is a GIMPS participant who discovered the 35th Mersenne prime, 21,398,269-1. It was the first Mersenne prime discovered by GIMPS. At the time of discovery, Armengaud was a programmer at Paris-based Apsylog, which would later become a part of Hewlett-Packard.
